It's Never Too Late...

...to help a man, wrongly convicted of a crime he did not commit, regain his freedom. Regardless of the years remaining of the unjust sentence he has been forced to endure, his quest for freedom is just as important as those of men in the early stages of wrongful incarceration. These pages will contain his story, his pleas for justice that have heretofore fallen on deaf ears. His voice, broadcast to the unhearing, unwilling to listen, unable to help shall find a home here. Hope springs eternal in his heart that society, law enforcement, friends and those in a position to help will hear of his case and put an end to this tragedy of justice. Please use the navigation bar above to view contact information, court documents, letters written by Bruce, new articles and photographs of Bruce and the life he was forced to leave behind.

The Ray Towler Story; Esquire Magazine March 2011

May, 2011

To Whom It May Concern:

In reference to your story in the March 2011 issue of Esquire, page 136, "The Ray Towler Story"

I have been incarcerated for the last twenty-six years in the California Department of Corrections for crimes I did NOT commit. These crimes continued at the same location AFTER my arrest, but the LAPD did not investigate the possibility that they were related even though the description of the assailant matched the description of the assailant in the crimes I was convicted of.

Recently the Innocence Project investigated my case but could not help because years ago the gathered samples and other evidence was routinely destroyed by the Los Angeles Police Department. My trial attorney was so negligent that he failed to deliver to the LAPD a court order to preserve the evidence. Had he not been so negligent, I would not be in prison today.

Over the years, we have contacted the primary victim in my case, asking her to submit to a saliva test in order to conduct a simple test. All that we have asked her to do is to spit in a cup so the PGM enzyme analysis could be done. She has continually refused the request even though the results of the PGM test and modern DNA testing would prove my innocence. A Petition of Habeas Corpus was filed with the California Supreme Court in 1997 (see attached file).

If there is someone out there with any advice, ideas, legal assistance, media contacts, or other information that could possibly help me, or if you are interested in helping me prove my innocence PLEASE contact me. If additional information is needed, please write and I will be glad to provide you with whatever you may need.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider my desperate plea for help in getting the truth uncovered. Twenty-six years is a long time for an innocent man to be locked up.

Best Regards,

  1. Truly a heart breaking story. I say you get whoever does your website to start a petition through a change.org. This company has been very successful at getting results. You really should look into it. Then once you get about a million signatures, (which won't take that long through change.org), then have it hand delivered along with an empty cup to the woman who has wrongfully accused you and hold her accountable for this lengthy punishment she has subjected you to. Demand that she spits in that cup. Sounds to me like she knows for sure that they have the wrong guy locked up and she doesn't want to face the truth. C'mon lady... Get real... Fact of the matter... The only chance you have at ever having any respect for yourself ever again is if you spit in that cup. The truth will set you free. The both of you that is. Good luck.
